BLOG 34 A TRUE HEART CHANGE

BLOG 34    A TRUE HEART CHANGE

What is a true heart change and how can I have it?
A true heart change can not come through a person’s mind!  Faith for salvation comes from the word of God being heard by preaching and teaching.  The word being taught goes into the ground of a person’s heart producing faith to believe for salvation.  This is the work of  Holy Spirit.  He convicts the person that they are a sinner and that they need a Savior.  Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.  Romans 10:17  God’s word is supernatural and it does a supernatural work in the heart.  In Titus 3:5, “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, by the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.”  The definition of Regeneration is: Reproduced; Born anew, Renovated in heart, Changed from a natural to a spiritual state.  God’s heart is for all to come to the knowledge of the truth and to be saved.  Obeying the truth sets a person free. John 8:32
It is crucial that we have a heart change.  Because all mankind is born with sin and disconnected from God in their spirits, we must be born again.  Adam and Eve rebelled against God in the Garden of Eden and ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.  God told them if they did eat of that tree, “they would surely die.”  Eve was deceived by satan and did eat and offered it to Adam and he also ate of the tree.  Genesis 2:17 They died spiritually and were no longer connected to God because He is a spirit.
There are denominations who teach that you make a decision to receive salvation. Making a decision is making it with your head.  Making a decision with your head and walking up the aisle, does not save a person!  Making a decision and accepting the account puts the emphasis on what you did. This is works based religion.  I believe there are many people who have been taught this and have made the decision with their heads, but there has not been a true  change of their hearts.  A heart change is when the Holy Spirit comes in and re-creates a person’s spirit.  Then they are a new creature that has never existed before.   2Corinthians 5:17  The old man is gone!  Did you get that?  If you are no different than you were before you walked the aisle, you have not received a new heart!  There is a change that takes place in a person’s heart.  They are not the same as before.  What draws a person to walk the aisle and confess Jesus for salvation is a conviction of Holy Spirit tugging at their heart.  Not by a decision that they have made with their head!  When one “accepts” Jesus it is like they are making a contract and it is something they are doing in their own strength of mind instead of by the conviction of Holy Spirit.  He does the work, not you.  See John 6:44.  “No man can come to Me, except the Father which has sent Me draw him; and I will raise him up at the last day.”
There are many works based religions that keep people in bondage all their lives trying to be good enough by their works to get to heaven.  It is by grace through faith that a person is saved.  Read Ephesians 2:8, 9 “For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God; not of works, lest any man should boast.”  Grace is God’s unmerited favor, unearned.  We can’t earn grace; it is all God’s doing.  Grace we don’t deserve, but freely given to us by God.  It is all about the work of Holy Spirit.
The Bible says in Romans 3:10, “There is none righteous, no not one.”  I know people can do good deeds, but that does not make them righteous in God’s eyes.  Only by believing on Jesus Christ and what He accomplished on the cross, realizing you are a sinner and that you need a Savior, can you be saved.  It is faith in His blood that was received after the Gospel was preached.  When this happens, you are born again.  You are no longer a sinner!   Mistakes can still be made, but we are not sinners because we have a new nature; the nature of God on the inside.  When born again, we have already been cleansed from all unrighteousness by the blood of Jesus, once and for all.  Before the new birth, we were by nature sinners.  In other words, all had the nature of a sinner because of original sin that came from Adam and Eve.  Just a reminder of the scripture in 1 Corinthians 5:17, reads, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature (new creature, one that never existed before) old things are passed away; (the old man is gone!) behold, all things are become new”.  2Corinthians 5:21, “For he has made Him(Jesus) to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. (Jesus)                                 I have heard pastors and others teach that we are still sinners because of the scripture in 1John 1:9.  “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”  In chapter one, John is declaring to unbelievers (Unregenerate)  and giving witness of the Lord Jesus Christ, explaining what they can have in Him, also.  John, in chapter two is talking to believers.  See in 1John 2:1, reads “My little children”, these things write I unto you, that you sin not. (talking about our actions)  And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.  Unbelievers would not be called “My children”.  We can still make wrong choices(especially if we do not listen to Holy Spirit) because we live in a fallen world and there are many pressures that can come against us, but we are not sinners any more.  We have been saved by grace. Ephesians 2:8-9  We are a new creation in Christ.  2Corinthians 5:17   We have put on His righteousness.  2Coprinthians 5:21  This is why we need a Savior.  After this, we are to live by the power of  Holy Spirit, drawing out the fruit of the spirit as we need it.  Love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance:  These are the fruit of the spirit that are given to those who are born again.
Believing in and believing on are two different things.  Many believe in the account of Jesus, even the demons believe this and they surely are not saved.  Believing on Jesus causes a person to surrender and to submit their lives to God to do His will in the earth.
Head knowledge will keep the person doing the same things as before.   Not necessarily bad things, but they are not submitted to God and His will for their lives. “For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.” “For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” Romans 8:5,6   When born again from above, we belong to God because of the price that was paid by the precious blood of Jesus. You will have God’s heart on matters and not your own.  Holy Spirit will lead you to God’s will, and you will have a desire to fulfill it.  Not our will be done, but God’s will.  “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” Romans 8:14  God knows all and what is needed.  Holy Spirit will guide you to all truth.  He is the Spirit of truth.  God’s will is to reach the lost and to bring His kingdom to them.  In John 3:3, Jesus tells us that, “Except a man be born again, he can not see the kingdom of God.”  And in John3:5, “Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he can not enter into the kingdom of God.”  We are admonished in Matthew 6:33, to seek first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness.  The kingdom of God comes without observation.  It can’t be seen with the physical eyes because it comes on the inside of a born again believer.  God’s will is to give His creation His kingdom.  When a person is truly born again, they have the King living on the inside of the kingdom in them.
Pride in man makes him think that he has to earn his salvation.  There are many being fooled by the devil into thinking that they are saved from destruction by their works!  There has not been a true heart change.  They are no different than they were before they made the “decision.”  Hearing a sermon and emotionally walking down the aisle at a gathering doesn’t save a person.  Sometimes a Pastor will twist a person’s spiritual arms with a moving sermon to walk the aisle or also by using guilt or shame.  This is very dangerous because that person will think he is saved when he is not!  Holy Spirit is the “divine drawer”.  He is, “The Spirit of Grace and Supplication.”  It is God who opens our eyes to see Christ.
I don’t want to diminish the importance and the power of the word of God because it is alive. Hebrews 4:12  It is living and it is supernatural.  When we hear the word taught or preached, it supernaturally goes into the ground of our hearts by the power of Holy Spirit and He changes our hearts.  This is why we must hear God’s word out loud.   The words of God are heard in two ways; by the outward ear and by the inward ear.  The inward ear is heard by the spirit of man.   It is His way for us to receive.  Why did God move on men of old to write His word down if it’s not essential?  How does a person get saved if they never hear the word?  The power (of the scriptures) is by Holy Spirit as we hear the word of God.  Making a decision with one’s head is no salvation at all!  Natural man would be content to keep his idols and self-interests if it weren’t for Holy Spirit.
These are the facts.  I want you to know the truth.  There has to be a conviction by the Holy Spirit.  He is the initiator.  Jesus knocks on our door first!   Although preaching the word is vital, our confidence must not be in preaching, but it must be in God who does the wooing and winning of the hardened heart.  Otherwise, it would be by the work of preaching.  “Our great preaching”!  It is all the work of the Spirit of God.  He does it all and He is the One who gives the gift of spiritual faith.  We are to be thankful and praise Him forever.   If He is not praised by His creation, the rocks will.
“The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.” Romans 8:16
